Today, Pierpaolo answers four questions about why he decided on Psychotherapy as a profession, and how he works with clients and offers a piece of advice to consider if you are starting therapy.

Let’s get started Pierpaolo,

Tell us about your approach to therapy?

When I meet a new client, my first concern is to create a safe place for them to talk about their emotions, difficulties, or any other concern they have about their life situations. By doing so I hope to create a relationship of mutual trust within which they can freely express themselves.

Through my work, I help my clients to develop their self-awareness, which I believe is one of the main factors that develop resilience and facilitate personality change.

.

.

Why did you Study Psychotherapy?

I decide to become a psychotherapist because I experienced great benefits from it for my mental health and I wanted to help others to live a more fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy helped me to go past some obsessions, perfectionism, and anxiety tendency that were making my life very restricted, I felt imprisoned in my thoughts and emotions. Psychotherapy gave me the chance to engage in more meaningful relationships. It is a demanding journey for both the therapist and the client, but it is a journey worth pursuing.

What Was your Area of Focus?

My area of focus is integrative and experiential. I tend to work with my clients by asking them to pay close attention to what is happening in their life in the present, and only occasionally do I digress to the past. it is about learning from experience not just having a talk about something happening.
What advice would you give a client looking for a therapist?

.

.

TIP: I would advise them to check for therapists that are accredited with some counselling/psychotherapist organization. This is to make sure that the therapist has acquired the necessary training to perform their job. Once this is in place, I would then advise them to see how they “click” with the therapist. The quality of the relationships is more important than the technique used in therapy.
