Profile
John is a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor who is trained in humanistic and integrative approaches to psychotherapy. Prior to training as a therapist, his background was in academia, looking particularly at philosophical theories of knowledge and the dialogue between Buddhism and Western thought. He was also involved in intercultural dialogue for a number of years. He is interested in social justice, spirituality, and the arts and how these can inform mental wellbeing.
Approach
John takes a humanistic and integrative approach to psychotherapy and counselling, and he places emphasis on valuing each person and their experience of the world. He sees therapy as a collaborative journey in which the healing forces within a person are set free to lead them to healing and wholeness. He draws from a number of therapeutic approaches and seeks to meet each person in the way most appropriate to them, and to create an atmosphere of safety and nurture in which inner experience can be explored in a sensitive and gentle manner.
