Most Client-Focused Centre 2021/2022-How we got there!

EU Irish Enterprise Award 2022- City Therapy

Most Client-Focused Centre Dublin

Yes, you read the title; we “won” the award for the Most Client-Focused Centre in Dublin by Irish Enterprise Award 2022.

Anne and I are so delighted to have won this award. We have worked so hard over the last two years and this has made the hard work all worthwhile.

Let me tell you about the last two years!

When Covid started, we, like many, were scared, confused, and scrambling to know how to help others, ourselves, our business, and our families. You get it! You were right there with us.

For so many, uncertainties were at the forefront of our minds, questions, and thoughts- when will this end, will we ever get back to see family, socialise with friends, and what about our children? What about people dying and getting unwell. And of course, what about our business?

“Will City Therapy survive?”

So, we reacted in the best way we could and put our service users, clients, and our team’s safety as a priority. We came together to see how best to help the people who access our service and the team who provide such a needed psychological service.

Our first job……

On the 19th of March, we closed our doors and worked so hard with our team to ensure that they could provide mental health support online to those who needed it. This wasn’t without any difficulty. We supported our team with education from IACP (this is one of the accreditation bodies that provide accreditation to Counsellors and Psychotherapists)—assisted in any way possible. Our low-cost service resumed online and we continued to support the Senior Trainees to continue working with their clients.

With the support and dedication of the team, clients were able to continue receiving the mental health care they needed.

Over the next few weeks, Anne and I wanted to develop something that could raise money for the health care workers and the families of patients cared for in the hospital. We chose St James Hospital charity and raised 1500 euros! Yay.

St James Hospital and the staff there hold a place in my mind and heart. I worked there for 12 years and I saw firsthand the extent of effort and many extra miles the staff went, especially my Social Work colleagues. We watched all these health care workers risking their health to serve the community. At one point, I even contemplated returning to the frontline as a social worker to help.

Once we received word from the Minster of Health that Psychotherapists could return to in-person work, we went straight into developing Covid policies, conducting risk assessments on the environment, and introducing our team and the new regulations.

Our main goal was to keep our clients and team safe by developing robust Covid strategies and policies.”

fig. Covid Safety Plan

Putting our efforts into our Covid safety plan was extremely important to us, and we worked effortlessly to reduce the risk of Covid in our center.

Over the next few months, we kept a close eye on the ever-evolving situation with Covid outbreaks, new restrictions, etc. We always had a firm eye on the people who access our service at City Therapy—ensuring that we provide quality interventions and a positive experience.

One of our quality interventions highlighted mental health supports, information, and tips to promote wellbeing. We shared videos, reels, and other tips on our social media platforms.

So, here we are now.

We are still working hard to build a center of excellence, ensuring that we are continuously overseeing that our team is providing quality-based interventions. When you access our service, you will meet experienced psychotherapists who are passionate, registered, qualified, and caring. We look after all the other bits so that when you come into any of our clinics, you leave feeling understood and receiving a good service.

Take Care,

Shaunna Impey
